Chelsea won their fifth consecutive game in all competitions with a 2-0 Premier League win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday

Frank Lampard’s side see themselves climbing to the top of the league, although playing one more game, seeing their form of victory continue

Federico Fernandez scored in his own goal to give Chelsea an early lead in ten minutes

Tammy Abraham extended the visitors’ lead in the 64th minute out of the post

Newcastle United started off brilliantly with a few corners at the start, but it was Timo Werner who got the first big chance of the game He took a low shot at the far post but Karl Darlow tied it with a superb low save to deny the German an almost certain first game in the opening five minutes

Tammy Abraham almost found the net after being denied with a great save from Darlow following an excellent ball from Hakim Ziyech

But an own goal in the tenth minute from Federico Fernandez put the Blues in the lead from the start Mason Mount sparkled a ball through the box and pressure from Ben Chilwell forced the defender to transform into his own net

Werner almost helped Abraham double the lead five minutes later, but the Englishman was unable to resume his delivery which hit the goal

In the 30th minute, Werner should have gone 2-0 against Chelsea The ball fell to him in front of goal, 15 meters away, but he missed his wide shot

Jamaal Lascelles suffered a knee problem after intercepting Werner late in the first period and was replaced by Fabian Schar

Werner was at the center of the game again as he capitalized on a mistake at the back as he ran to goal Instead of shooting he decided to adapt him to Ziyech, but it was a terrible ball attempt and the hosts cleared

Isaac Hayden almost punished the Blues for their lack of cruelty but he could only return his efforts

But in the 64th minute, Lampard’s men finally doubled their lead Wasteful Werner provided the help with a blistering run from his half to feed Abraham, and he sent Darlow back via the post, to give Chelsea a two draws lead

Eight minutes later Sean Longstaff nearly halved the deficit with a long shot, but the crossbar turned him down

Werner had the ball in the back of the net as he rounded Darlow but the flag refused him Moments later in the 76th minute he rested and was replaced by Callum Hudson-Odoi

Ben Chilwell also had a rest as he was taken away by Lampard for Emerson Palmieri with nine minutes left Olivier Giroud also came to replace Ziyech

Chelsea saw the game to win all three points on a day they didn’t show their cruelty in front of goal It could have and should have been much more comfortable for the Blues, who have obtained their sixth clean sheet in their last seven games in all competitions.
