Shane Richie has come a long way since moving away from Albert Square, having played Alfie Moon on Eastenders for 17 years The star is now a fellow I’m in the 2020 series. Alfie Moon made his first appearance on Eastenders in 2002 and remained in the popular British soap opera for three years

He made a comeback five years later in 2010, following the return of his wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and fans were happy to see him on screen again.

Alfie and Kat were known to have a difficult relationship, and Alfie was a beloved character during his time at the Queen Vic pub

Both characters left the soap opera in 2015, before starring in their own spinoff series called Kat & Alfie: Redwater, which aired in 2017

Alfie later returned to Eastenders in 2018 and starred in his final episode in January 2019.The star said he didn’t think he’d landed the part at first, and he was very moved when he found out that he got the role

His character is one of the most iconic in the series and he was inspired by the show’s writer Tony Jordan

Alfie Moon is still alive in the soap opera, so there’s always a chance he’ll return in the future, and Richie hasn’t ruled out that prospect

Richie revealed his character is “still on the run” but said he has kept in touch with co-star Wallace about the latest storylines

The star has said he’s too busy to join the cast next year, but he won’t rule out a return in 2022

He enjoyed doing various returns to the soap opera, saying he loved playing Alfie Moon, but the star has so many other commitments to consider

The 56-year-old actor has appeared in several other shows since leaving the soap opera, including Caravanning With Shane Richie and Star Boot Sale narration

His other credits over the years include Benidorm, Moving On, We Doomed! History of Father’s Army, and he acted as a guest presenter on The One Show

Fans may also know that the star, who is also a singer, has made three albums in her time, including Once Around the Sun in 2000 and A Country Soul in 2017

He’s also a huge fan of the theater and one of his most recent ventures has been retired drag queen Hugo Battersby, otherwise known as Loco Chanelle, in the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

The father-of-five has also taken care of his charity work as he is a patron of the Cherry Trees children’s charity and the Huntington’s Disease Association

It’s no wonder the actor hasn’t returned to Eastenders in a while, as he has so much on his plate

Richie appeared on This Morning in October 2019 and he suggested Alfie Moon may return to Eastenders in the future

In 2016, he left Walford with Kat after winning a huge sum of cash on a scratch card He was later diagnosed with a brain tumor, but fans were delighted to learn he had suffered an operation that saved his life

The last time he was seen at Walford he scammed Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and ran away, faking his own death
